After the sports boom during the corona pandemic, the sports equipment trade is now in decline in some places. (symbol image)

According to the Freiburg newspaper “La Liberté”, many employees who left were not replaced. Additionally, layoffs will be announced in small steps. Scott marketing manager Reto Aeschbacher told the paper that as an entrepreneur, you always have to adapt the company’s organization and costs to whether markets are growing or slowing down.

After the boom during the corona epidemic, there is a slowdown in the bicycle and sports products market. Aeschbacher does not see any improvement in the market before the third quarter of 2024. The industry must adapt to the new reality, he said, without revealing details of the company’s planned measures.

According to the newspaper, Scott’s sales are around one billion francs and Givisiez employs 350 to 400 people. This is still more than the 320 employees in 2019 or the 280 employees in 2018, the year before the corona pandemic. “If there are jobs, we create jobs,” Aeschbacher told the newspaper.
