The official award ceremony took place on Thursday during the UNWTO General Assembly in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, as announced by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco). There are now seven “Best Tourism Villages” in Switzerland, with the towns of Andermatt, Gruyères, Murten, Saas-Fee and Val Poschiavo receiving awards in recent years.
According to the statement, Morcote and Saint-Ursanne impressed the jury with their strong focus on sustainable development, picturesque village centers and various initiatives to preserve, promote and exploit cultural heritage for tourism.
