The video streaming giant now feels its strategy is being promoted so strongly that some subscription variants will initially become more expensive for customers in the US, France and Great Britain. The stock rose more than nine percent at times in after-hours trading Wednesday.

Netflix has been taking action against users who share the same account since the summer. Additional money now needs to be paid – either other users pay for their own accounts, or the previous account holder adds them as additional members for an extra amount.

According to Netflix’s previous calculations, around 100 million people were using another household’s password. The company predicts that affected users will choose to pay rather than cancel the service. This calculation works. Netflix had a total of 238.4 million paying customers at the end of the quarter.

Netflix announced Wednesday that Netflix sales rose eight percent year over year to $8.54 billion. Profits rose by a fifth to about $1.68 billion.
