The Saudi project of the century “Neom” in the northwest of the country is taking increasingly concrete forms. Projects already known and under construction include the linear city “The Line”, the resort island Sindalah and the mountain resort Trojena, which will offer outdoor skiing for the first time on the Arabian Peninsula.
Now Neom has announced another destination. “Leyja” is a region completely dedicated to wellness tourism. It extends several kilometers inland from the waters of the Gulf of Aqaba and follows a natural valley between 400-meter-high mountains. Three architecturally impressive hotels will be built here.
One of these is aimed at active adventures and is built into the rock face. The second is located at the heart of the valley’s largest oasis and is intended to serve as a gateway to exploring the region. The third facility is a wellness center with a reflective façade that reflects the walls of the valley. Each hotel will have exactly 40 rooms and suites. Neom’s makers promise to use ecological construction and design techniques.
The area should remain calm
Here guests can hike through the desert’s dry riverbed valleys and the 73-kilometer hiking trail to Trojena. Those who prefer to relax can relax in the rooftop pools or work up a sweat in the fitness room. Helicopter landing areas are available for the trip. It is unknown how much the ultra-luxury facility costs.
To succeed in positioning Saudi Arabia as a tourism destination, the situation in the region needs to remain calm. Saudi Arabia does not want the Middle East conflict to expand, especially due to its ambitious tourism goals.
