Health insurance premiums cause red heads. Compulsory basic insurance premiums will increase by an average of 8.7 percent in 2024. But at least: Administrative costs for health insurance companies have fallen slightly in 2022, according to analysis by comparison portal Comparis.
“The fact that health insurance companies can reduce their administrative costs when providing basic coverage is remarkable given the increasing regulatory bureaucracy,” says Comparis health insurance expert Felix Schneuwly (63). In total, administrative costs for 45 health insurance companies fell to 5.1 percent of 5.2 percent of premiums. On average, health insurance companies pay administrative expenses of 193.50 francs per insured person.
Lucerne Hinterland health insurance company is the most efficient. The health insurance company spent the same amount as last year, at 105.30 francs per insured person, or 2.6 percent of the basic insurance premium.
