Many travel-hungry people want to go on vacation this fall. City trips are especially popular. The Swiss are also ready to pay high prices for this. That’s the conclusion of a survey published Thursday on behalf of travel company DER Touristik Suisse, which also owns the Kuoni brand.
This shows that a quarter of survey respondents who definitely or probably want to travel are prepared to spend more on autumn holidays this year. While half of those surveyed are planning on the same budget as last year, only a quarter want to save on travel costs.
15 percent more than before Corona
The desire to spend more money during the holidays is also reflected in the latest sales figures for Kuoni and its sister brands: This season, they recorded a 15 percent increase across all brands compared to the pre-pandemic level in autumn 2019. Kuoni says customers’ price sensitivity doesn’t make travel brands.
Whatever their actual plans for fall break, 75 percent of survey respondents said they’re currently interested in city trips. According to the announcement, Kuoni is booking particularly well in the following cities:
- Paris
- Hamburg
- Rome
Trips to the mountains (69 percent) or the sea (67 percent) are also popular, according to the survey. When it comes to Kuoni’s beach destinations the following are particularly popular:
- Sweetcorn
- Mauritius
- Cyprus
- Maldives
- canaries
- Southern Türkiye
Paris for short-term travelers
If you want to book your autumn holiday now, you need to be quite flexible due to high demand. But there is still space: for direct flights, for example, to Kalamata in the south of Greece’s Peloponnese. Among the cities, Paris, Venice and Vienna are suitable for short-term travel plans thanks to their good railway connections.
According to the information obtained, the survey was conducted by Marketagent, the market research institute in German- and French-speaking Switzerland, in September 2023, and 1,045 people participated in the survey. (pbe)
