Swiss online retailers are under pressure. Increasing competition and staff shortages are causing problems in these companies, a survey shows.(Symbolic image)

The corona-related boom is over. Nine out of ten retailers in Switzerland and Austria said this in a survey by the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW).

According to the research published on Thursday, this situation is due, on the one hand, to the decrease in purchasing power due to inflation. This means customers are more likely to spend their money on travel and events rather than on online products.

Two-thirds of online retailers surveyed also noticed increased competition. Purchasing behavior has likely shifted again in favor of offline stores.

However, the situation surrounding supply chain bottlenecks has improved compared to the previous year. However, personnel shortages will gradually increase. Half of the companies surveyed stated that the number of qualified employees is too low.

According to the information obtained, the survey was conducted for the sixth time and covers 598 online stores from various sectors in Switzerland and Austria.
