Just hold the card or smartwatch for a moment; Coffee is paid for. No thought is wasted on tips. After all, you cannot “get proper service” in takeaway service.

Once upon a time this was different. While I still paid for my coffee with a fiver, a tip was almost inevitable. Almost no one wanted to accept this difficult change. Instead of the 50 cents you put in your wallet, they go to the service personnel.

Otherwise the tips will decrease

Wages in the catering industry are already astronomically low. And now the clues are dwindling. For service workers, inflation will burn a hole in their pockets sooner than later.

That’s why restaurateurs are starting to get creative. You are right! Increasingly, you have to decide whether to tip when paying by card. Completely consciously and under the watchful eye of the staff. I think this is a good thing!

Whether or not you tip is entirely up to you. But ask yourself if those few pennies are really hurting you. Or would you rather make someone happy with it?
