Young families should be able to buy homes more easily: Homeowners Association launches two popular initiatives

Owning a house or apartment has become unaffordable for many. The homeowners’ association is therefore launching two popular initiatives in the canton. (icon image)

Both popular initiatives were published in the Official Gazette on Friday. The first HEV initiative is called the “Home Ownership Initiative” and aims to promote condominium ownership. This should require the canton to promote owner-occupied flats to the same extent as non-profit flats or cooperatives.

The second initiative is primarily aimed at young families whose dreams of owning a small house can hardly be fulfilled anymore. The so-called “start-up aid initiative” requires the canton to guarantee up to 15 percent of equity. Interested parties will then only need to bring with them five percent of their own capital.

This guarantee meant that the canton would have to take responsibility for their exploding home dreams. It is not yet clear when collecting signatures for the two initiatives will begin. (SDA)
