The group thus clearly exceeded the expectations of industry experts, after reporting a loss of £114m a year ago. Easyjet justified the development with the continued high demand for tickets with higher flight prices.

Group management also expects high pre-tax profits in the fourth quarter, as announced Thursday in Luton, near London, by rival of Europe’s largest low-cost carrier Ryanair. However, management warned that the aviation industry is facing increasing challenges this summer.

He referred, among other things, to increased airspace restrictions that could cause operational delays. In addition, according to the information received, employees in the sector are on strike much more often than before the corona pandemic. Earlier in the month, Easyjet had canceled 1,700 flights for this summer.

In the last quarter, group sales increased by a third compared to the same period last year, reaching £2.36 billion. Just under 23.5 million, almost 7 percent more passengers boarded. Machine utilization increased from 88 percent to 90 percent.
