The Comparis consumer price index measures the price increase for everyday goods.

According to the Comparis consumer price index, daily consumption goods prices increased by 1.5 percent in June compared to the same month of the previous year. The index is also referred to as “perceived” inflation because it reflects the price evolution of goods consumed regularly. It is these that consumers perceive price changes most strongly.

The national consumer price index from the Federal Statistical Office (BFS) rose 1.7 percent from the previous year. Prior to this, the Comparis Index, which has been collected since the beginning of the year together with ETH’s KOF economic research centre, was always above the official values of BFS. Low fuel prices have now contributed to the decline, Comparis said on Wednesday.

However, it was stated in the communique that the prices of meals and package tours, which were stated to provide comparison service, remained high. Pet products and veterinary services for pets are also much more expensive than they were a year ago.

Single-person households over the age of 65 experienced the highest inflation in the last twelve months. The perceived inflation rate for them was 2.0 percent. Because the products and services they demand are more affected by inflation. Single-person households under the age of 65, on the other hand, felt the price increase the least.

Some everyday items have already become cheaper

However, given the recent price developments, consumers can breathe a sigh of relief. Prices of many everyday goods hardly rose from May to June. Package tours and dairy only slightly increased. Sugar, margarine, edible fats and oils and bread have become cheaper in the last month.
