On Friday morning, SBB will present the new IR-Dosto to media representatives. But this isn’t a new variant of Bombardier’s notoriously jarring buddy. The new IR-Dosto is from Stadler Rail, the chairman is Peter Spuhler (64).

The name IR-Dosto stands for Interregio double-decker train. Two years ago, SBB ordered 60 units from Stadler for CHF 1.3 billion. The new train is 150 meters long and offers 466 seats. It is also barrier-free: barrier-free boarding must be possible for all passengers.

The first models are expected to carry passengers via Switzerland from 17 July. The first four vehicles serve the route from Zurich to Schaffhausen. With the tariff change in December, the new IR-Dosto will also be used on the following routes: Berne-Zurich-Chur (IR35), Basel-Zurich Airport (IR36) and Zurich-Schaffhausen (RE). More routes will be followed each year over the next three years.

Eight bike spaces and better customer information

There is also a second-rate new carpet in place of the previous plastic floor. There is also more space for both legs and prams and bicycles. There are also sockets for e-bikes in eight bike parking spots at two points of the train.

There are five toilets spread over six cars. With the “Moving-App” screen, passengers should also be able to learn more. In the first class, there are only three seats in each row. Two on one side of the corridor – one on the other.

SBB trains currently have 93 Regio-Dosto and IR-Dosto vehicles. Now 60 more will be added.

Blick tests the new model before the first official ride. You can find the video footage and the report in the afternoon at blick.ch.
