What a word! Products at the lowest prices: 26 Migros outlet branches in the country offer this. However, everyone who buys groceries or household goods here pays much more than the cheap products in regular Migros stores. The consumer magazine “Ktipp” writes. Could this really happen?
In Migros stores, some of the products are in garbage bins or on simple pallets. Discounts have everything: from 50 to 75 percent. The range is diverse. Besides the coffee capsules, there are also mayo, travel bags, meat and pasta or foods such as canned food.
Spaghetti is significantly more expensive
However, Migros outlet stores offer almost no savings potential. This is demonstrated by a “Ktipp” sample for 20 days’ products at five outlet branches of various Migros cooperatives from the beginning of June.
Specifically: 15 out of 20 items were significantly cheaper at regular Migros branches. These are mostly products from the low-cost M-Budget line: for example, a kilogram of spaghetti costs 1.40 francs at the classic Migros branches. Outlet stores only had more expensive spaghetti from brands like Barilla or La Molisana, starting at CHF 3.40 per kilogram. That’s upright.
According to Ktipp, a similar picture emerged in cosmetics: 250 milliliters of Palmolive shower gel cost 2.40 CHF at the outlet, while M-Budget shower gel at Migros branch costs only 30 cents. The shower gel at the outlet was eight times more expensive than the cheapest product at the branch. How can this be explained to the consumer?
Almost no cheap lines
Sales points are managed by regional Migros cooperatives. According to a spokesperson for Migros Lucerne, for example, customers will find liquidated goods from the Migros range in outlet stores, as well as leftovers from overstocks of Migros companies, Migros suppliers and other manufacturers. So far, so good.
Still: This explains why there are almost no classic Migros products available at Migros outlets, but often expensive branded products. Its own inexpensive line M-Budget is rarely found on the shelves at the point of sale.
50 to 75 percent off
Real bargain items were most likely found in liquidation goods: clothes were often sold at outlets at a 50 or 75 percent discount compared to regular Migros stores, as “Ktipp” puts it.
For example, in Winterthur ZH, a bikini from Migros’ range last year could be bought for only 6.30 francs, while in Lausanne, underwear could be bought for one franc. Good deal, no questions.
“Outlet Migros always sells similar branded products at Migros branches for less than the original price,” Migros Lucerne spokesperson tells Blick.
Purchased items that complete the assortment will also be sold at an attractive price. “Taking a look at Migros stores is definitely worth a fair price.”
