Switzerland is in a travel fever. Summer vacation is coming soon, and three out of four Swiss want to travel, according to a representative survey in CH Media newspapers by Europ Assistance, a subsidiary of insurance company Generali.

No savings: At CHF 3,443, Switzerland has the highest holiday budget per household of any surveyed country. The European average is 1885 francs.

But watch out: The holidays have gotten more expensive. After the corona pandemic, many people want to catch up with their travels, which is driving prices up. Then there is inflation. Tour operator Kuoni observes travel prices about ten percent higher than before Corona. If you want to go to America or Canada, you have to take into account price increases in the double-digit percentage range. Still: The industry expects a record year for 2023, recently wrote “Sonntagsblick”.

Most people book late

CH Media newspapers are bad luck for those who haven’t booked yet, because they’ll likely have to pay more – and there are many: nearly two out of three people didn’t book their summer vacation in April, writes the CH Media newspapers. Hoping for a bargain is not worth it. “The golden age of last-minute offers is over,” says Christoph Heinzmann of Holidaycheck’s SonntagsBlick.

Nearby countries are especially popular. 27 percent say they want to go to Italy. “CH Media” writes that France and Spain are also very popular. (brother)
