Back to work: The Zurich cantonal police are expanding the package of measures to better and above all speed up the security checks at Zurich Airport. “This way, people over 65 can also be newly employed, and the government council has created an opportunity for applicants with a C residence permit to register as well,” Kapo Zurich told Blick. Lately. Until now, Swiss citizenship was a prerequisite for employment.

But safety comes first. Kapo Zurich writes in a statement that he has a tough staffing situation this spring. Problem: Security staff at Zurich Airport was greatly reduced during Corona. Training of new employees has resumed from the autumn of 2022.

The measures are already taking effect.

But there are problems with recruiting. Therefore, Kapo feels compelled to take new measures. Since retirees and foreigners can also apply, the number of applications has increased significantly. Five courses are planned for 2023 to train additional staff. Two have already been completed.

Long queues have formed in front of the security control at Zurich Airport recently. Here is a picture from mid-April 2023.

And the measures have already had an impact: average wait times from 13:23 minutes in May and 16:38 minutes in April were just 9:57 minutes (90th percentile) in June.
