In 2022, overnight stays in the Swiss non-hotel industry rose 6.6 percent to 17.4 million, as reported by the Federal Statistics Office (BFS) on Thursday. That means more overnight stays than before the corona pandemic in 2019.
The driver was the increased demand from foreign tourists. The number of overnight stays with foreign guests, on the other hand, increased by 70 percent and reached 5.1 million. The overnight stays of domestic guests decreased by 7.4 percent to 12.3 million.
Along with overnight stays in hotels, overnight stays in all tourist accommodation in Switzerland increased by 21 percent to reach 55.6 million in 2022. But that number is still slightly negative (-1.1%) compared to pre-pandemic, according to BFS.
