Severe wildfires in Canada are also affecting the east coast of the USA. Cities like New York, Washington, and Philadelphia had a thick veil of smoke in the air Wednesday, and authorities increased health warnings due to air pollution. Air quality in cities was “unhealthy”, even “very unhealthy” in some places, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams urged the public to limit outdoor activities “as much as possible”. People with respiratory problems, the elderly and children should stay indoors only. Schools remained open, but outdoor events were canceled on Wednesday.
Canada has been experiencing severe wildfires for some time, and hundreds of fires have been recorded since the spring. Winds carry smoke particles to its southern neighbor, the United States. According to experts, the frequency and severity of forest fires has increased due to global warming.
