Fashion How to survive without a stylist when you don’t meet fashion standards?

Kim Kardashian is listening to the memorial of a lifetime because she gave us a revelation: even if your legs are twenty centimeters shorter than the legs of supermodels, you can still be a superstar. This is a new level of freedom for all of us, because we still remember the days when girls surgically lengthened their legs – sawing the bones and stretching them by a millimeter a day. Without any health indications, just to get closer to the model standard.

After this, the stories about Chinese lotus feet do not seem particularly surprising.

The concept of the ideal is changing quite quickly: I still remember the time when thin and tall girls were called “poor girl”. Then broad straight shoulders and strong athletic figures were in fashion. My personal taste was formed during the “heroin chic” period, when skinny, lanky models were considered beautiful. Then came the healthy nature again, and then the extended butt with Kim attached came into fashion.

Trends in the work of stylists are also changing, and now I am not talking so much about fashion, but about the general direction of recommendations. Among adult ladies over forty, the idea of masking character flaws is popular. If you read tips on how to hide a small figure, hide a belly, optically increase the chest and, conversely, reduce the hips, the author of the text is probably a product of the last century. It also features articles titled “5 things you shouldn’t wear in your 30s” and statements about the inappropriateness of diamonds during the day and sneakers at night.

Stylists of a different kind liked the idea of relevance. I mean, fashion. The woman was offered not to mask the features of the figure, but simply follow fashion trends and somehow fit into them. If everyone wears a low waist, then it’s better to let the belly fall out of the pants than to buy an insignificant thing with a belt five centimeters higher.

In principle, they have always been victims of fashion, but earlier they were laughed at, and later they began to call it freedom – if I want a fashionable thing, I have the right to buy it and I don’t care how it looks, as long as I like it.

Here I completely agree and strongly approve, but I would like to remind you that freedom basically comes naked, as the poet Khlebnikov said, so rags are by no means particularly liberating.

There are stylists who do not adore fashion – these are usually those who love all sorts of classifications. It is assumed that each person can be identified in some group and a suitable type of wardrobe can be chosen for him. It can be classified according to Kibby, according to Jungian archetypes, according to color types or all together.

The process of writing with the help of a specialist is extremely interesting, but it also has some difficulties. Sometimes it seems that many stylists, too fond of archetypes, consider the drapery mannequin to be an aesthetic ideal: an elongated silhouette and a lot of drapery. The look turns out to be very carnival-like, but going to office work, riding the subway, running in the heat and cold can be tiring in these rags. Honestly, I can’t think of an archetype that matches the down jacket of the body bag system, but you can’t think of a better winter outfit.

And unfortunately, being some kind of “classic gamin”, “magician”, “winter type” or God knows who, you can love things, colors and styles that you “shouldn’t”. Nothing can be done, it even suits you and others, but the effect is like in “Fashionable Sentence” – there it is always quite clear that the heroine, who got her moment of fame, tightens all this ” stylist’s choice”, hardly leaves the stage and already never worn.

I myself want a t-shirt with a cat today, worn velvet trousers tomorrow, a red stretchy dress the day after tomorrow and then a hideous yellow sweater, but soft.

And how to combine all these heart-wrenching desires with your own type, with fashion trends, with character traits and the requirements of various dress codes?

In the end, you just fall hands first into the closet and put on what you managed to grab.

It helps me to ask myself some questions.

Who would I like to look like today?

It’s kind of embarrassing to say it out loud, but sometimes you want to be a cat, sometimes you want to be a warrior, sometimes you want to be a business woman, and sometimes you want to be a tramp. But more often than not, there is some favorite image of yourself that needs to be put into words and presented well. And pull out a few things from the closet that go with it.

Another question – who do I feel now? I want to be a young princess, but right now I feel like an elderly pile of indeterminate gender trash. And it also happens the other way around, bad energy is in full swing when something more serious is needed, but I still take things that are close to my condition.

What will I feel comfortable in where I need to go? Image – image, but you need to pick up some comfortable and practical things.

What makes me happy today? Sometimes I want clothes to wrap me like a fluffy cloud, protect me like armor, or glide like silk. And I take things of suitable texture.

And yes, what’s the weather like there?

So I have a bunch of different junk from which I need to choose something more or less compatible. Underwear usually embodies secret desires, shoes and a bag are responsible for comfort, accessories and jewelry are for mood, “pleasantness” is provided by what is in direct contact with the body (for example, a silk T-shirt), and outerwear is responsible for the image – the they actually make up who I am to be today.

I can’t guarantee it always looks elegant or even appropriate, but I’m never going to be the kits and mods kind of girl anyway, so why not play? If you don’t take clothes too seriously, they turn into an endless field for experimentation, and to all who love them and know how to follow them, let all sorts of norms and standards remain.
