We decided to find out if this is true. We also found out how to choose the right knit dress so you don’t look bigger than you really are.

To begin with, it is important to decide on the material. Dresses made of thin elastic fabrics shape the body and emphasize any irregularities on it. Everything will be visible in them: from the smallest crease on the stomach to the seams on stockings or underwear. So that the relief does not emphasize, choose models from denser materials.

A tight dress would not be the best solution. You will feel uncomfortable and insecure in it, and the tight cut will only emphasize the volume more. If you want to add lightness to your figure, opt for models with a loose or semi-fitting cut.

Pay attention to details and finish the outfit. First of all, it concerns the texture. They visually slim down and add height to the hem of the dress. The stripes should not be too wide and not too frequent. In the first case, they can have the shape of the body and go in waves, thereby distorting the proportions, in the second, they can overload the image and add volume.
Second, pay attention to what parts of your body you pay attention to. Models with an emphasis on the waist make the body proportional, add expressiveness to the figure and visually lengthen the legs.
A V-shaped cut will help emphasize the neck – it will also visually lengthen the silhouette, making the upper part of the body more fragile. A great choice for girls with broad shoulders. But a dress with a high collar, on the contrary, visually shortens the neck, but protects it from the wind in cold winters. If you want to slightly offset the effect, you can collect the hair up, which will show the neck.

Cuts will help slim the lower body and emphasize the length of the legs. Thanks to the asymmetry, they perfectly correct the figure and lengthen the silhouette.
Girls with wide hips should pay attention to dresses with emphasis on the shoulders or massive sleeves. This technique visually compensates for the volume in the lower part and helps balance the proportions. Also, wide, shallow necklines work great in this case.

The color and length of the dress play an equally important role. Monochromatic models optically slim the figure, those decorated prints add volume, and if the pattern is not successful, it distorts the shape as well.
So that the dress does not cut the growth and does not expand the proportions, it is better that its edge does not fall on wide parts of the body. The ideal length is just above the knee, to the knee, below mid-calf and at the same time above the ankle.
