Is it a bodice or an island? 5 “geographical” dresses that almost put the stars to shame

We’ll get down to the nitty-gritty right away: we love, love, love Lopez, Paltrow, and the rest of the celebs in our selection, but we also recognize that they, like all living humans, are no strangers to fashion quirks. And while the Western glitz looks on at J. Lo’s black dress, believing it to be “luxurious” and “leaves no room for imagination” — well, it is. But at the same time, it is not a new idea – to use an outfit with “islands”. Moreover, it is extremely dangerous, because such clothes are ready to immediately betray their lovers.

They even look a little conservative on the models on the catwalk – so a strip of transparent fabric on the sides, nothing more. But for curvy girls…

Jennifer Lopez

Let’s start with our J. Lo, who inspired us to be nostalgic for “geographic” dresses. At the premiere of the film on Netflix Halftime about herself, the singer appeared in a Tom Ford outfit. Tom regularly supplies his star girlfriend with couture updates, and more often than not, this bundle is unmatched. But the thin fabric, clearly not meant for Lopez’s figure, was on edge this time. Watch out for skirts and pleats that are scary to step on – what if they burst? And naked clothes will no longer have a metaphorical meaning.

Rita Ora

In 2015, Rita Ora decided to beat her rivals at the Oscars and chose a Donna Karan Atelier trick dress with chiffon inserts. Although the word “pads” is perhaps redundant here – there was much more transparent fabric than dense “islands”. In full face, Rita looked more than stern, but as soon as she turned around, the designer’s idea was revealed… In all its glory. At the right angle and during Ora’s movement, even more was visible than necessary.

Vanessa Hudgens

And there’s news among the “geographical” dresses that Vanessa Hudgens showed the world on MTV. To be honest, we make fun of this phenomenon: after the release of Valentino’s bright pink collection, celebrities rushed to buy dresses, capes and fuchsia pants with such fervor that they started to see pink in their eyes. Still, Vanessa couldn’t resist and tried the hot new item, but we don’t know how her bust held up in the island bodice. They looked safe on the models, but the svelte Hudgens was clearly willing to take a chance. We kept our fingers crossed throughout the ceremony – that nothing falls!

Jamie Alexander

In 2013, this dress by Jamie Alexander was named “the most provocative in Hollywood”. It “works” just like Rita Ora’s clothes – that is, it shines through and shifts as you walk, revealing what the “islands” of dense fabric were trying to hide. While the actress told reporters about how she herself got a luxurious figure and does not go to the hall at all, photographers clicked the shutters of cameras. And yet they filmed something that the star did not expect – the frames are still circulating on the Internet with black rectangles in the form of censorship.

Gwyneth Paltrow

There are at least 5 nude dresses in Gwyneth’s collection to remember. She obviously likes the wow effect, but the actress called this outing to Antonio Berardi a failure. “I couldn’t change and put my underwear on,” she complained on the TV show after the red carpet. On the other hand, this “Iron Man” premiere is still in the memory of journalists and fans – and it’s all about the same “islands”, which again showed more than planned, but went down in “naked” fashion history.
