You’re not using the rule of thirds: Here’s why your clothes don’t “put together” a fashionable look

We bet you know this paradox: you have your favorite sweatshirt and the perfect pair of jeans, but they don’t look together. Or there is a cool shirt and a fashionable skirt (just like a fashion blogger!) – but in no way are they “friends”. And what are the machinations of evil spirits that replace cool clothes with questionable purchases on the way home from the store?

No mysticism – just the wrong combination. Yes, in addition to styles, shades and cuts, it is important to take into account the rule of thirds: if you master this, you will never make a mistake in combining things.

Check out this simple video from TikTok fashionista Hannah Warling. It would seem that he is going for a “reinforced concrete” foundation – a straight cut t-shirt and mid-rise jeans – what could go wrong? All! Because the rule of thirds is not respected in this picture. The outfit visually divides the blogger’s figure into two halves, making the look automatically boring. But let’s change the proportions…

Swap the T-shirt for a cropped top, jeans for a high-rise model. Magic! The silhouette stretches sharply, it even seems that Hannah has grown a few centimeters and even slimmed down. And the whole secret is that this time the outfit is visually divided into thirds: one of them is occupied by the top, two by pants. Let’s change the ratio: the combination of pants and an elongated sweatshirt works the same – and all because the image is stored in thirds.

Where does this magic come from outside of Hogwarts? From the golden ratio – a proportion that subconsciously seems ideal to us. The division into thirds (frame, image, image) is essentially a simplified scheme of the golden section that retains its magical powers. And most importantly, you don’t have to think long about this simplest rule: just make sure that the look is divided into thirds – and the win-win combinations will “be” themselves!
