Fashion How to understand that a coat is of high quality: 5 signs you should pay attention to

Modern stylish coats are easy to fall in love with – we know that firsthand. There are so many fashionable models in mass brands that it is almost impossible to choose one of them (and not get lost in som-som-doubts) at once, and what can we say about luxury brands, where classic cashmere coats can almost be handed down by inheritance – they are so perfect . But you can’t fool us: you and I both know that it’s dangerous to buy clothes based on appearance alone!

In order to take home a truly valuable find, we first visually select timeless or trendiest models, then carefully study their appearance and composition, and only then take the selected coats to the wardrobe. We’re sure you’ll be able to handle the first step easily – did you forget our selection of 12 models that fit perfectly on all figures?

But you need to figure out the second step: we will tell you what to focus on when choosing a fashionable coat.

Correct composition

In general, all warm coats can be divided into two categories: wool blend and wool. In the second case, the percentage of wool cannot be less than 90%, in the first – less than 20%. The cost depends on this indicator, so do not forget to check that the price of the product corresponds to the composition. And the peeling test will also come in handy – i.e. the appearance of the pellets.

Just rub your coat sleeves together – not hard – and see if the material rolls. If, due to a small friction, pellets already appear and the fabric loses its appearance, this is an iron reason to postpone such a find. Controlling clearance will also be a plus: if you can see the light through the hem, such outerwear will release all the heat.

Comfortable fit

Fit is half the battle when choosing the perfect coat. We focus not only on sensations, but also on the voice of reason: have you already thought about what sweater to wear with a new thing? It is even advisable to immediately try on a coat with a sweater, which you plan to be its “companion” – it is very important to check in advance whether the shoulders “fit” when you take into account tight clothes.

The same applies to buttons and fasteners: if the coat almost does not meet at the waist, you definitely do not need to be fooled – it is full of unnecessary shopping. When moving, the body needs more space, in addition, a sweater or an office jacket will give us additional volume.

practical length

And again, we’re thinking ahead: what shoes will you wear your coat with? If you bought fashionable over-the-knee boots for autumn and winter, you should make sure that their tops are partially hidden under the hem of the coat. The gap between high boots and short outerwear looks weird! Too long models can also be dangerous if your height does not exceed 165 centimeters – in this case, take our little guide, which outerwear is contraindicated for your petite figure.

Sleeves

We follow the same simple logic: the sleeve of your new coat should have enough volume to fit into the sleeve of the sweater. Otherwise, the bottom layer will simply roll up into an unpleasant roller and turn your hand into a solid log – and how unsightly the dense material will swell! In general, we are silent about how such a combo is so inconvenient …

Details

Hardware is our worst enemy. Poor quality, of course. Even if the coat in the store has passed your strict face check and is already ready to go to your wardrobe, check all the details one last time with all your love: the paint or enamel of the buttons should not peel off, the threads should not stick out, and the lining should come loose at the slightest movement .

Pay attention to the places where the sleeves and hem are folded: in the first case, the “overlap” should be at least two centimeters, in the second – at least three. This means that the designer and tailor did not skimp on the material of the coat and made sure that all the details looked “expensive” and dignified. And we were looking for such a model!
