Personal stylist Rose Holden has been practicing color theory since 2006 – imagine how many clients have asked her to sort their wardrobes into ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ palettes during that time!

Over the years of work, Rose noticed a certain pattern: women after forty years came with a similar problem – they stopped liking the colors they adored in their 20s and 30s. And often these shades were repeated, which means that they really should be excluded from the wardrobe as you grow up.

Bright blue accentuates unhealthy pallor and under-eye circles – as well as veins if they are close to the surface of the skin. Therefore, it makes more sense to replace this flashy shade with a more intelligent indigo.

Orange has a dozen variants and not all of them are right for you. Everything here is very individual: some shades yellow the skin, while others, on the contrary, emphasize redness. But in any case, avoid deep orange after forty – or choose it straight away after double-checking your appearance.

“If the color is very bright, it’s better to put it away right away,” says Rose. He particularly criticizes the color red, which is generally provocative and attracts attention. Scarlet clothes cannot fit badly, be unironed or not fit correctly: red will “highlight” all the imperfections of the image even more.

There are a huge number of yellow shades, as well as red, and some of them can look fresher, while others can visually worsen age-related changes. Light canary goes against natural skin tones, so it often looks foreign.
