Why you look ridiculous in jeans and a t-shirt: this detail spoils everything

This often happens: the most convenient combinations, in which it seems difficult to make a mistake, fail miserably. Sneakers for example with jeans – what could go wrong? Lots of things and we’ve already talked about it in detail. Now let’s deal with the betrayal of the tried-and-true t-shirt + jeans combo.

If you look at fashion bloggers wearing variations of denim and basic tops and looking amazing, there is no doubt that the combination obviously works. But in real life it can look ridiculous and meager – have you noticed?

Take a closer look at the image on the left: something is obviously wrong with it, isn’t it? Skip jeans that are not long enough (this style is outdated) and pay attention to proportions. The T-shirt ends approximately in the middle of the body, where the jeans begin. And that is the main mistake.

In the world of styling, there is a simple but essential rule of thirds. Visually divide your body into three equal parts and mentally draw horizontal lines along their borders. This is where the “boundaries” of clothing should pass so that your silhouette is harmonious.

Look at the picture on the right: the waist line is moved a little higher, therefore the figure is optically divided into thirds. And the outfit looks completely different!

Likewise, thirds work in the opposite direction – if you lengthen the top of the image. The main thing is not to divide the silhouette exactly in half: this will make the outfit modest. And any deviations up or down that make visual thirds is the same trick that all fashion bloggers use!
