Bathing in the Dolce Riviera is possible, among other things, on these new sun terraces.
This is a paid post brought to you by Montreux Riviera.

Genoa: 5.5 hours. Rimini: 6 hours. Fine: 7 hours. If you want to travel to the Mediterranean, you can’t get away with less than half a day’s drive or even a full day’s journey. The places mentioned have the Mediterranean feel we seek, Switzerland also has it! Especially at Montreux-Vevey VD. Here the Dolce Riviera offers relaxation, joie de vivre and lots of sun – and it’s just two hours from Zurich, Basel and Lucerne. The Bernese even travels to the holiday paradise on Lake Geneva in just an hour. Below, we’ll show you what to experience for the perfect summer vacation!

Wash

Just because of its size of 581 square kilometers, Lake Geneva sometimes feels like a sea: Lac Léman is one of the largest bodies of fresh water in Central and Western Europe. But for locals, Léman is above all “the most beautiful basin in Western Europe”. With at least 25 kilometers of coastline, many good swimming opportunities such as small coves and public beaches, you can enjoy the cool water of about 21 degrees in summer. Of particular importance are the seasonal summer piers and terraces, first installed two years ago and accessible free of charge, in Vevey, Montreux, La Tour-de-Peilz, Villeneuve and Lutry. Umbrellas and changing rooms are available and the next ice cream is not far from here. Pure dolce far niente! If you want to get some exercise without doing anything, you can do it, for example, by pedalo – the magnificent view of Lavaux’s Unesco vineyards is included here.

View

In case the urge to act completely suppresses the relaxation gene for a day: The resort area around Montreux has a variety of attractions for vacationers to explore. One of the most famous is the nearby Chillon Castle, which can also be reached by boat. Or the popular game museum in La Tour-de-Peilz. The picturesque old town of Vevey, with its numerous cafes and boutiques, as well as Montreux’s famous seven kilometer long promenade, is also worth a visit. There is a statue of a famous person in both cities: a statue of Charlie Chaplin (1889-1977), who spent the last 25 years of his life in Vevey, on the promenade in Vevey. Chaplin’s World relays the stories and emotions associated with the famous filmmaker today in his residence at Manoir de Ban. Rock fans make the pilgrimage to Montreux to see the statue of Freddie Mercury (1946-1991), who recorded six Queen albums, including “Made in Heaven”, at their local Mountain Studios at Montreux Casino Barrière. The studios can be visited as part of an exhibition.

excursions

A round trip on Lake Geneva is a special experience on a gourmet round trip, for example the “Riviera” tour including wine tasting on board. Those who prefer cycling or hiking can do it in Lavaux. These 10,000 vineyard terraces, created by man since the 11th century, have been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2007. Cyclists or hikers don’t need to look far for places to stop for a drink! If you like the Alps more, Rochers-de-Naye is for you. Montreux’s local mountain can be reached in 55 minutes by cogwheel train. At an altitude of 2042 m above sea level. M., hikers can enjoy breathtaking views of the Vaud Alps. Beautiful walking paths can also be found at an altitude of about 1400 meters in the middle of the railway track in the Les Pléiades region. The right drink awaits you on the terrace of the Chalet-Restaurant des Pléiades: an open-air raclette with a view.

culinary

Speaking of culinary delights: gourmets can almost feel like they’re in heaven on the Dolce Riviera. At least 25 restaurants in the Michelin and Gault & Millau guides welcome their guests, and the “Alimentarium” in Vevey is the first museum in the world devoted solely to nutrition. The museum can be recognized by its distinctive, world’s largest fork in the lake. The famous restaurant, Ze Fork, right next door, takes its name from the 8-meter-high cutlery and, like many restaurants in the area, has fresh fish on its menu. And in addition to that? A glass of Chasselas from Lavaux is a must on the Riviera.

Culture

In addition to art galleries in Montreux and Vevey, there is a wide range of music on the program for culture lovers, from classical to pop and jazz. The most famous of the festivals, the Montreux Jazz Festival, which takes place between 30 June and 15 July this year, features stars such as Lionel Richie, Simply Red, Morcheeba and Bob Dylan. In addition to these shows in the halls, there will be several free open-air concerts along the promenade in 2023. Pure summer vacation feeling!
