When old Netflix titles suddenly start to get a lot of viewing again, there’s usually only one reason for that: it continues. A sequel or next season is coming out and that’s why people watch the predecessor or the previous episodes. But there is currently no sequel to “Maid”, but the series starring Margaret Qualley as a single mother trying to somehow escape poverty suddenly became a TikTok hype.
That’s what Netflix expert Kasey Moore said a few days ago that someone uploaded lengthy clips of “Maid” on the social media platform TikTok – accumulating millions of views. There are so many that you could almost make episodes of them. Netflix could face such a copyright infringement harshly now, but the “Maid” example shows how it can also function as an advertisement.
This account has been uploading clips for Maid for the past week. The largest has reached 61.7 MILLION views.
I’ve mentioned it before, but TikTok is Netflix’s biggest threat and seems to be Netflix’s biggest asset. pic.twitter.com/4O6n2QCebt

As soon as Moore published his tweet, it was also clear that “Maid” suddenly landed back on the Netflix charts in the US. So people who watched the clips on TikTok were clearly curious about the series.
“Maid” is back on Netflix’s weekly charts worldwide
It has now become clear that this is not just a very short-lived phenomenon and perhaps only limited to the US. Because Netflix has now published its global weekly charts. And while the fresh new productions “FUBAR” and “XO, Kitty” naturally top the English-language series, “Maid” ranks a solid eighth there.
The series also made the weekly top 10 charts in 36 different countries – and around the world. In addition to the US, there are also more than a dozen countries in Europe (e.g. Denmark, Great Britain and Croatia), some in Africa (e.g. Egypt, Kenya), several in Asia (e.g. Kuwait, Lebanon and Sri Lanka). as Australia and New Zealand. In Germany, however, “Maid” has not (so far) returned to the top 10, where the series was when it started in 2021.
The series was a huge hit on Netflix after it came out in fall 2021. But like so many Netflix productions, it seemed – until now – forgotten in hindsight. The example “domestic help“ once again impressively demonstrates what a powerful weapon social media is today in the field of film and series promotion. It can even cause long-forgotten Netflix productions to suddenly regain consciousness.
