There are very nice camping areas where you can go for nature walks in the mountains.

Spend the night in a tent, caravan or caravan – you can do this at many campsites in Switzerland. Here you can experience pure nature and still be in a monitored area with reception, sanitary facilities, electricity and water.

In some places, even glamping is possible, i.e. glamorous camping with all kinds of accommodation available.

According to the statistics portal Statista, 396 campsites were operated in Switzerland in 2020. Thanks to the wide range of products, the right place for a wide variety of tastes can be found – from there you can start city tours or nature walks or simply enjoy the panorama and nature. These are the ten most beautiful mountain campgrounds recommended by the Blick community last summer:

Camp Burgistein BE

«Camp Burgistein! It has a very nice location, very close to walking, and the hospitality in this family business is amazing! All homemade and great food – and the delicious cakes from the boss are a dream! The campground is quite small but everything is fine.”

Aaregg family campsite Brienz BE

“I particularly like the Aaregg campsite in Brienz, right on the shore of Lake Brienz. It is perfect for families and offers a large playground, great facilities and is beautifully maintained. The view of the lake and mountains surrounding the campsite makes the camp even more beautiful. It’s really worth a vacation or a short break. The excursions you can take around Lake Brienz are wonderful. It’s never boring. We loved it here and will go there again.”

Campsite Mattli, Göscheneralp UR

«Camping Mattli Göscheneralp: Pure nature and breathtaking views of the Damma chain. Great hikes and the five SAC cottages are within walking distance from the campground.»

Camping in Klöntal GL

«In Klöntal – the Güntlenau campsite or the Vorauen campground, both are beautiful.»

Campground Jakobsbad AI

«Jakobsbad has a great campsite with clean sanitary facilities. From the campsite you can hike to Kronberg or take the train to Appenzell, Ebenalp or Hoher Kasten. There is a large playground on site and the rope park is right next door.»

Camping Terza, Oberterzen SG

«Camp Terza in Oberterzen is familiar and comfortable. Nice and clean toilet facilities. A beautiful pool and a great view of Churfirsten. In a few minutes you can be at Flumserberg and Lake Walen.»

Campsite Pè da Munt, Santa Maria Val Mustair GR

«Camping Pè da Munt in Santa Maria is truly one of the most beautiful campsites in Switzerland. You can still grill with wood, whether collected or purchased. Just a dream for kids. You can take endless walks up to Val Mora, in the direction of Terza, up to S-charl. Or at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Müstair. You can hike to the abbey of Johann! In the evening the campground is very quiet, no disco and bar noise.»

Camping Morteratsch, Pontresina GR

“I think it’s Camping Morteratsch in Pontresina. It offers good infrastructure, is located in the middle of the mountain forest and has incredibly beautiful views of the mountains and glaciers. It is also close to the Diavolezza cable car, where you are ‘on top of the world’. Great.”

Camp Molignon, Les Hauderes VS

«Camp Molignon in Les Haudéres: There is an indoor pool that can be opened when the weather is nice. A great starting point for great hikes or mountain tours. There is also a playground for children. The hosts are friendly and simple. Super quality pizza is also available on site.»

Camp Fafleralp, VS

«Camping Fafleralp (1700 m above sea level), located directly on a flood, is probably one of the most original campsites in Switzerland. You can sit wherever you want, there are several fireplaces, a utensil offers everything you need and the gastro kiosk offers food and drink and all the necessary information. Including the sound of a stream, a starry sky with no light pollution, and a view of mountains and glaciers.»

Editor’s note: In the summer of 2023, the Fafleralp campground will remain closed for some time due to the planned flood protection project construction work.
