“No bastards on set”: This is how the “Guardians Of The Galaxy 3” stars explain the great atmosphere in the MCU trilogy

“Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 3” continues to ring the box office (worldwide box office currently: $659 million). Some time before that, we got to enjoy the new Marvel blockbuster at an early special screening at Disneyland Paris.

And in this context, not only did director James Gunn, “Star-Lord” Chris Pratt and “Gamora” Zoe Saldana travel, but also to the French capital Nebula and Mantis actresses Karen Gillan And Pom Klementieff took the time to talk to us about the grand finale of the cosmic MCU trilogy. Below you can read what they have to say about the emotional farewell and what – well – adventurous idea Pom Klementieff had for her own film about her character Mantis…

James Gunn’s “No Assholes” Policy

Pom Klementieff: She is exhausted, but also happily excited. She is ready to have fun.

Karen Gillan: Oh yeah. My god, you really understand me! (laughs)

Pom Klementieff: We were really lucky. I’ve worked on other movies where you get along with certain people but not everyone, which can be difficult over a long period of time. But these movies here were so special. We love James, the rest of the cast and everyone on the crew as well. We had so much fun. James just has this no asshole policy. (laughs) He knows how to choose his people.

Karen Gillan: That’s correct. It is really special work. We have been able to do this for almost ten years now and have been through so much together. That melts together. The thought of this ending is now emotional.

Pom Klementieff: We’ve had very different last days, but there were times where we thought, ‘Oh, this is probably the last time we’re going to do this together.’ It felt weird.

Karen Gillan: The farewell scene at the end was really hard for us. We actually cried and didn’t even have to act for it. It was very important to us. We were proud of what we had achieved, but at the same time sad to let go.

Pom Klementieff: It’s rare that a director has a clear vision on this blockbuster scale. James wrote and directed all three films and the Holiday Special, sculpting these characters. And even though we’ve appeared in other Marvel movies, he’s always helped set up the dialogue and make sure the characters are faithful. We could trust him completely and at the same time we had a lot of fun with him.

Pom Klementieff: We had so much fun filming the Holiday Special because it was a breath of fresh air and we could be so stupid and completely insane. But “Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 3” was really great precisely because it was so down to earth and full of emotions. Rocket and its backstory are just so interesting. And we’ve had hints of that before, like in the first “Guardians Of The Galaxy” you can already see the scars on his back and wonder what happened to him. It was great to be back there now.

Pom Klementieff: Oh yes, I cried when I saw that. You don’t really see the characters while shooting, at most you see pictures of them since they were only shot on the computer. And to see it on the big screen is wonderful.

Pom Klementieff: You said it. I want them all as stuffed animals. I want them to exist in real life to talk to them. I almost miss her.

Karen Gillan: Okay, now I have to see this movie too. (everyone laughs)

Will Mantis and Nebula return?

Pom Klementieff: We have absolutely no idea, to be honest. We love these characters and it’s hard to say goodbye. But so far I can hardly imagine it without James Gunn. But I do not know. We shall see…..

Pom Klementieff: It sure would be cute to see a baby praying mantis. (laughs)

Karen Gillan: … with half an antenna still growing.

Pom Klementieff: (laughs) Oh yeah, he calls me his buggy daughter.

Karen Gillan: Nebula has already made an amazing evolution. You and Gamora have actually switched places now. It would be nice to continue to guide her on her path of healing. But it also feels like a perfect time to wrap up with the character now that she’s allowed love for the first time and has a real family. She finally got there and I don’t know how you would go on from there. On the other hand, the character is such an interesting source of emotions that more can certainly be done with her. Maybe an origin story.

Pom Klementieff: I would really like to do a praying mantis on mushrooms specially. (laughs) It would certainly be very colorful, exciting and fun. I don’t know if Disney would be on board though. But it would just be interesting to see how Mantis behaves in such a world and situation. 3D!

Karen Gillan: “Eat some mushrooms before you watch this.”

Pom Klementieff: There are simply too many to choose just one.

Karen Gillan: It’s all those moments between scenes, the moments where we laugh together, just tied together. There was such a great atmosphere watching these movies. Everyone is just so funny and weird.

Pom Klementieff: It was a really happy set that we could just have fun with and kids could be up to.

Future at DC?

Karen Gillan: There are tons of great female DC characters. Don’t know. Maybe a cheeky poison ivy? Then I don’t have to do anything else with my hair. Honestly, I’d play any character James offers me, even if he asks me to play a two-headed alien where I wouldn’t be recognized and I wouldn’t have any rules.

Pom Klementieff: Talks have already taken place. So let’s see…

Pom Klementieff: Me, too. He’s just the perfect person for it. You can see what he did with the Guardians Of The Galaxy. Here, too, he already had a plan for the next ten years with the first film. Now he does the same at DC.

Pom Klementieff: Yes, there was so much confusion because everything went in different directions. With the vision and organization of James Gunn, things are going to be something.
