Is Elyas M’Barek now experiencing his international breakthrough? His new film could take care of that!

When it comes to comedy material that likes to bring a sometimes more, sometimes less obvious touch of romance, Elyas M’Barek (“Offroad”) is actually the right man to lure the masses to the cinemas in this country. Well, with “Liebesding” this route has not been successful lately, but the series “Fack Ju Göhte”, “Traumfrauen”, “Welcome to the Hartmanns”, “The Perfect Secret” or “Nightlife” were all hits.

In summary: Elyas M’Barek is already a star in Germany, but his popularity can be expanded internationally. And the actor apparently wants to do something about it. It has now been announced that M’Barek will next play the male lead in “Night day‘, an adaptation of Virgina Woolf’s 1919 novel of the same name. The German-British co-production will be directed by Tina Gharavi, with Haley Bennett (“Swallow”) starring.

This is “day and night”

“Night And Day” is one of the projects presented to the film market during the Cannes Film Festival. The story revolves around the astronomer Katharine (Bennett), who is engaged to a man she doesn’t love. She too struggles with her role as a woman at the beginning of the 20th century. However, when she meets ambitious lawyer Ralph (M’Barek), Katharine is blown away. But can she follow her desires without getting in the way of her ambitions?

“Night And Day” is another romantic comedy, but much less tacky than is known from Germany. While M’Barek can draw on his experience as a sweetheart-loving charmer, he also faces the challenge of mastering his first English-language starring role. In the 2013 also English-language young adult adaptation “The Mortal Instruments”, M’Barek had only a supporting role.

But before we see “Night And Day” in this country, “Chantal in the Fairytale Land” is a spin-off of the successful series “Fack Ju Göhte”. M’Barek is a guest here, while Jella Haase can be seen again as Chantal Ackermann, but in the lead role. After the three “Fack Ju Göhte” films, director Bora Dagtekin is again responsible for the staging. A German cinema release has not yet been announced.
