Leonardo DiCaprio: Scorsese is the great director of our time

Actor Leonardo DiCaprio has emphasized his special appreciation for director Martin Scorsese. “Martin’s persistence and relentlessness in telling the truth about the stories – no matter how ugly, how bizarre, how uncomfortable – is masterful,” the 48-year-old said in Cannes on Sunday.

“His respect for the history of cinema, for what was made before him, the influence of the great directors of his past who made him the director he is, is simply incomparable. He managed to describe himself as the great director of our time.”

DiCaprio and Scorsese have worked together many times. Her movie “Killers of the Flower Moon” premiered this weekend at the Cannes Film Festival.

The western thriller tells of the native people of the Osage, who became victims of a major crime in Oklahoma in the 1920s. Members of her tribe were systematically murdered after large amounts of oil were found on their land. The murders were not investigated for a long time, eventually the FBI investigated the case. Apple’s production is based on a true story and non-fiction book by journalist David Grann.

“My people have suffered greatly,” Osage chief chief Standing Bear said in Cannes on Sunday. “The effects are still felt today.” The film team helped regain trust. (sda/dpa)
