The corona pandemic is one of the most formative traumatic events of the social media era. Today, however, the lockdown is a thing of the past for most. The rose-colored glasses with which we humans like to look back on the past make some now long for the pandemic.
For example, it says on TikTok under the hashtag #pandemic nostalgia dozens of videos from users missing the Corona period. A video by creator Toby Rozario went viral earlier this week in which he tearfully recalled the “amazing” time of lockdown. He wrote: “Remember the lockdown when everyone was baking bread, dancing, painting, tending their plants and learning new skills? We got a glimpse of what life should be like. What a time.”
So far, the video has nearly two million views and nearly 250,000 likes. Many seem to understand Toby’s feelings. So the TikToker also gets a lot of encouragement in the comments. “I really miss the lockdown, you could take your time and finally breathe a little bit,” one user wrote, while a second said, “Many have complained but actually the time was really healing.”
But the clip also gets a strong headwind and some cannot understand at all how you can miss the Corona period. A user also writes in the comments: “Don’t you have all the cups in the cupboard anymore? Are we really missing a LOCKDOWN?!?» Or: “As a nurse, I don’t miss this time at all. It was the worst time in my life. When I also consider how many people died then, I find such a film rather tactless.”
However, many also explain in their videos why they are nostalgic for such a time. Some think they are introverted or mentally disturbed and that this time at home has done them good. Others are aware that they too have suffered during the lockdown, but still wish for more peace to return today.
