Great action series with “John Wick 4” star continues – although part 4 was the finale!

If there are film festivals in Cannes, many projects that will not be released until the next few years will become known. Because on the so-called film market, which takes place at the same time, the distribution rights for upcoming titles are also traded. Hong Kong-based production company Mandarin Motion Pictures has now co-hosted three titles with Donnie Yen.

Ip Man 5 is coming!

Of course, the announcement of “Ip Man 5” made the biggest headlines. Donnie Yen also shared a first teaser poster for the surprise sequel on social networks. Because “Ip Man 4: The Finale” was actually – as the title makes clear – advertised as the final installment in a series based on the life of the Wing Chun grandmaster and Bruce Lee teacher. But Fans will be thrilled, as the four previous “Ip Man” films featuring Yen are among the best martial arts cinema has produced in recent years.

It is not known what the so far so grandiose fifth part of the action series is about. Taking the ruined dojo with gunned-down henchmen and their swords as an indication, a few people want to get their hands on the righteous Ip Man again – but he knows how to defend himself.

More Donnie Yen with “Flash Point Resurgence” and “Misjudgment”

Flash Point Resurgence is another sequel – another very surprising one, more than 15 years after its predecessor. In 2007 “Flash Point” was released (as a prequel to “Kill Zone SPL”, which is also very worthwhile). Donnie Yen and Louis Koo play a very opposing police duo who are targeted by gangsters.

For many, the film is one of Yen’s best productions because it combines such diverse and great interludes, especially in the confrontation – from shootings to heavy fighting. A teaser poster for “Flash Point Resurgence” has also been released:

Incidentally, together with director Wilson Yip, Yen shot the four previous “Ip Man” films as well as “Flashpoint”. It has not yet been confirmed that he will return for the respective sequels as well.

The third project will probably go in a completely different direction. “Misjudgment” is about a man who is used as a scapegoat by a powerful syndicate and ends up in prison as a drug smuggler. Years later, a young prosecutor risks his career to uncover the truth. Yen plays the older version of the innocent prisoner. Of course, there’s a teaser poster here too.

It is not yet clear when the three films will be released, because they all need to be rotated first. Donnie Yen is currently represented twice in German cinemas. He is still on Keanu Reeves’ side in “John Wick 4” and in some theaters he directed “Donnie Yen’s Sakra”, which also hits home theater on June 30, 2023.
