After QR change: Customers still come to the post office with old payment receipts

From Swiss Post’s point of view, the switch to QR billing has started very well. After two days she draws a positive conclusion. However, customers still come to the counters with conventional payment receipts.

Customers have asked Swiss Post employees a number of questions about the new account and customers with old payment receipts are still coming to the counter, Swiss Post said at the request of news agency AWP. However, because there were more employees than usual at the counters during the first two days, there were only a few longer waiting times.

Orange and red payment receipts are a thing of the past since Saturday 1 October. These are no longer valid and have been replaced by invoices with a digital QR code. Customers with conventional payment vouchers are therefore sent home again.

Here’s an overview of the QR change:

According to the Post, a total of 183,000 bills were paid at the counters on Saturday and Sunday. During these two days, 646 ready-made letters were delivered to customers who had come with old payment receipts. The letters can be sent to the billers – with the request to send them a QR invoice.

There were also issues with some QR bills. Swiss Post issued 140 letters to the billers to customers who came to the counter with an incorrect QR bill. Overall, however, only a few customers were sent home without achieving anything.

In addition to the clearly visible QR code, all information must remain in text form on each payment slip. Like the previous receipts, this one consists of a payment section and a receipt. The QR bill was jointly developed by the federal government, the Swiss financial center, representatives of companies and consumers.

On Friday, the last day before the switch, there was another deposit rush. According to the information, Swiss Post counted 390,000 payments at the counters (QR and old payment receipts). That was almost 50,000 more than expected. The Post suspects that customers knew “that the last hour of the colorful payment receipts had come”.

About 9.5 percent of all deposits at the counter were made “at the last minute” on Friday with red or orange deposit slips. It is optimistic that the proportion of customers having to be sent home will continue to decline in the coming days and weeks. In the coming days, however, there will be slightly more staff than usual at the post offices. (sda/awp)
