And that’s what the new, four-part documentary series is all about, for which a buyer is sought in the film market currently taking place in Cannes.
The series explores the rich body of work of Burton, the creator of cult fantasy films such as Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands and Mars Attacks! gave us the mega successful Netflix series “Wednesday”. And who better to present the master’s work than his numerous famous colleagues?
Tim Burton documentary with old & new interviews
Director Tara Wood, who also directed the highly entertaining celebrity documentary “Tarantino – The Bloody Genius”, will not only use old material, some of which has never been published before, in the as-yet-untitled Tim Burton documentary. She also brought many of the stars fresh on camera to talk to them about Tim Burton. Johnny Depp also gave new interviews for the documentary.
In a statement, Johnny Depp, who made his first of many collaborations with Tim Burton on Edward Scissorhands, said: “The most important filmmaker who has completely changed my life is Tim. In the beginning he was the man who fought for me.” quoted.
In addition to Johnny Depp, Burton’s longtime partner Helena Bonham Carter and “Wednesday” shooting star Jenna Ortega, the documentary also stars Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton, Christopher Walken, Mia Wasikowska, Danny DeVito, Christoph Waltz and Tim Burton’s Home and Garden – Composer Danny Elfman will be featured.
Tim Burton continues to work hard: “Beetlejuice 2” is coming
In addition to Wednesday’s second season, which Burton is executive producing, the filmmaker is currently working on a sequel to one of his biggest hits, Beetlejuice 2, starring Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder — and Jenna Ortega joining the cast. The theatrical release is scheduled for September 5, 2024.
Meanwhile, Johnny Depp is currently represented in Cannes not only with the Tim Burton project for sale on the film market, but also with a feature film at the film festival – more precisely with the opening film: In Maïwenn’s “Jeanne du Barry” Depp plays King Louis XV.
