Quentin Tarantino and Leonardo DiCaprio helped Michael J. Fox retire from acting

It’s one of those scenes that really shows the class of Leonardo DiCaprio’s acting ability. As Rick Dalton in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time… in Hollywood, he appears on the set of the western The Good Fight. Although he is determined to fight his way back to the top, the most unpleasant thing that has ever happened to an actor happens to him: he can’t remember his line-up for the assembled team. As Michael J. Fox (“Back to the Future”) now in an interview with the explained, precisely this scene was partly responsible for the fact that he decided to end his acting career in 2020 after more than 40 active years:

“I was thinking ‘Once Upon A Time…in Hollywood.’ There’s a scene where Leonardo DiCaprio’s character can’t remember his lines, he goes back to his dressing room and writes to himself in the mirror, just insane. I had a moment where I looked in the mirror and thought, ‘I can’t remember my lines.'”

Unlike Rick Dalton, who gave himself an ultimatum in that scene, Michael J. Fox drew strength from that moment: I thought, ‘Well, let’s just keep going.’ It was peaceful.” With that, Fox has accepted that while he may have to retire from the movie business, life is far from over. Michael J. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1991 at the age of 29. The illness has already taken its toll on the actor, but giving up is not an option for Fox.
