After the fantasy series had already started with relatively weak numbers, we had already feared it, now there is certainty: “Lockwood & co.on Netflix won’t get a second season. The eight-episode first season was released on Netflix in January 2023. And despite the success of Jonathan Stroud’s book of the same name, there simply weren’t enough minutes of the supernatural detective series watched to convince the streaming service to renew.
How Netflix even reports regretting this, because they were “very satisfied” with the series itself and the work on it. The ratings wouldn’t have been enough to greenlight season 2.
Satisfaction with “Lockwood & Co.” is no coincidence. The series, about a group of teenagers who go on a ghost hunt in London, has been well received by the international press. On the review collection page 92 percent of the 13 press reviews are positive – according to Adam Riese, that’s just one negative review and 12 positive. The ratings are even 94 percent positive, with over 500 ratings fluttering in here. And with there is a sharp drop of 78/100 points from seven reviews.
Lockwood & Co. instead of “Bridgerton” Season 3
But none of this helps: the quality just isn’t enough if the streaming numbers (and price-performance ratio) aren’t right. In this case, it should be particularly bitter for “Lockwood & Co.” lead actress Ruby Stokes. Stokes plays Lucy Carlyle, who opens the eponymous ghost-hunting agency with Anthony Lockwood (Cameron Chapman) and George Karim (Ali Hadji-Heshmati) – and unlike other agencies of this kind, works completely without adult consultants.
Ruby Stokes starred in the first two seasons of the Netflix hit “BridgertonFrancesca Bridgerton – was seen quite rarely compared to her siblings. That’s because she was already working on Lockwood & Co while she was filming Bridgerton. Eventually, however, Stokes’ schedule became so packed that she had to leave Bridgerton altogether. In Season 3, a new actress plays Francesca Bridgerton: Hannah Dodd (“Anatomy of a Scandal”).

Ruby Stokes is reportedly on Lockwood & Co. signed before “Bridgerton”, and therefore this project was given priority. The “Bridgerton” crew had to let the young actress go after it became clear that the two projects could not be reconciled. It is a pity for Stokes: while “Lockwood & Co.” does not continue, Francesca’s big moment in “Bridgerton” is yet to come: the siblings will gradually each have their own season dedicated to them, in which their love story will be the focus.
Fans Are Also Worried About ‘Shadow And Bone’
Now the fans of “Lockwood & Co.” sad certainty, the fans of another fantasy series are preparing for a battle elsewhere: After the second season of “Shadow and Bone – Legends of Grisha“ could not build on the success of season 1, the cancellation is now also feared in this case.
And again reported, the swords are already put online here to start a rescue in this case. For example, this has already worked in the case of “Manifest”. Should season 3 of “Shadow And Bone” not be ordered, the hashtag of the hour should be #SaveShadowAndBone…
