These are the 20 best bars in the world – with a surprise at the top

The list of the 50 best bars in the world has been maintained since 2009. This year there is a big surprise – the winner is not from London or New York.

London and New York are known for their nightlife and their bar and club scene. It is therefore not surprising that in recent years the best bar in the world has come from these cities. 650 bartenders, bar owners and cocktail experts voted on the ranking. Each judge had to cast seven votes for the best bars he or she has visited in the past 18 months.

The list was first published in 2009. 13 years later, a bar from Barcelona has reached the top for the first time. Here’s the top 20:

The «Paradiso» is now the best bar in the world. It is located in the middle of Barcelona in the trendy district «El Born» – the entrance is in a nondescript pastrami shop.

The bar is in two parts: Elementary has slightly simpler drinks, while Tayēr offers cocktails with ingredients you may not have heard of.

Barcelona is represented twice on the podium: in third place follows the Bar Sips. At this location, the bar managers and their creations are the focus of the show.

In Mexico City, the team behind Licorería Limantour won the hearts of the judges with their extraordinary drinks.

In the Marais district of Paris, you walk through an inconspicuous red door and into this charming bar, which has been in the top 50 bars nine times.

At Jigger & Pony, 24 drinks are on the menu, all new attempts at putting old classics in a slightly different light. Family run by a couple, many customers appreciate the cozy atmosphere here.
