Why is Mother’s Day?

Mom is the best and so she deserves a great gift for Mother’s Day too!

Mother’s Day has been reinvented many times in antiquity, the Middle Ages, the American Civil War, the Nazi era, and post-war periods. It almost always served a purpose other than honoring mothers. For example, the Nazis used it to motivate women to produce cannon fodder. And in the post-war period, there was a vital interest in the flower trade.

Where does Mother’s Day come from?

In the Middle Ages, the image of the devoted, loving Virgin Mary was extremely popular. This is also King III. It also describes Henry’s “Mother’s Day”. It was introduced in England in the 13th century in honor of the Mother Church and the Mother of God.

Since Mother’s Market was the only day of the year when maids were free, they traditionally visited their parents. This made the day a holiday for their mothers.

British settlers in the New World had more to do than celebrate. Tradition died there. By 1872, suffragette Julia Ward Howe called for resettlement. Their intention was to gather all mothers in an anti-war movement. The plan didn’t work.

Ann Jarvis, who started Mother’s Day after the death of her mother, the founder of a local mothers’ counseling movement, has succeeded again. In 1907 it was first celebrated at his US resident church and, thanks to a persistent letter campaign, was also proclaimed nationally by Congress in 1914.

How long has Mother’s Day been in Europe?

The Salvation Army brought the idea back to Europe. Here in 1917, Switzerland was the first country to accept the proposal on the initiative of the florists.

The Nazis discredited Mother’s Day with the award of the mother’s cross, popularly known as “The Rabbit Sect”, and for a while it was not celebrated in Europe, the USA and Japan. There may be almost purely commercial reasons for its re-release.
