Of course he also benefited from the timing, because as we remember in the spring of 2020 we were all sitting at home and grateful for the distraction of streaming services – but the quality is also right much-discussed horror thriller”the shaft‘, which became a huge hit for Netflix. To date, Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia’s film is also the most watched Spanish Netflix film ever, and on Netflix’s all-time global charts, it ranks an impressive third for non-English language productions. Only the Norwegian fantasy action “Troll” and the German vampire horror “Blood Red Sky” were more successful.
And with such a huge success, we naturally assumed that Netflix would produce “Der Schacht 2” sooner or later. But the streaming service rarely lets itself be seen – and such an announcement usually comes quite suddenly. Netflix has been pretty unceremonial posting the first photos of “Der Schacht 2” on Twitter shows that the sequel is not only planned, but even shot.
The story is far from over…

In these cases, Netflix is always good for a surprise. And we wouldn’t be surprised if the first trailer for the sequel to “The Platform”, as the horror movie is known internationally, arrives soon.
Now follow “The Shaft” – it’s worth it
If you haven’t seen “Der Schacht” yet, but you are interested in philosophical horror dystopias interested, then this is the perfect time to catch up on the film. In “The Shaft”, Goreng (Ivan Massagué) ends up in a kind of prison in which the cells are arranged one above the other. There are numerous levels, two strangers are trapped in each level.
Once a day an elevator comes down with a feast – at least it’s still a feast for the upper floors, because the further the elevator goes down, the less is left. At the bottom, the prisoners starve and resort to radical means to survive. And that can happen to anyone: because every month the levels are reassigned, and so one day Goreng ends up at the bottom and realizes how quickly social norms can be thrown overboard when it comes to one’s own existence…
We have 3.5 out of 5 possible stars in the MOVIE STARTS review for “Der Schacht” reward and write in the conclusion: “The Well falters a bit in the last third – but until then, Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia delivers the perfect lesson on gore ethics for anyone looking to lose faith in society, humanity and the rest in record time. A film can hardly get more nihilistic.”
“Der Schacht 2” with new actors
Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia is again directing “Der Schacht 2”, the exact title of which is not yet known. Details about the content have not yet been revealed, but you can already see from the first photos that the actors* seen on it are likely to represent the new main characters. They are Milena Smit (“Parallel Moms”) and Hovik Keuchkerian, who plays Bogota in the Netflix hit “Money Heist”.
We’ve already thought extensively about what “Der Schacht 2” could be about. From sequel to prequel to repeating the story from part 1, only with new characters, everything is possible:
