Will Star-Lord be recast after Guardians of the Galaxy 3? So says Chris Pratt in the FILMSTARTS interview

Following “Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 3,” director and writer James Gunn now turns his back on the MCU to take the reins of DC’s comics league movies and series from now on. But what about the actors and actresses of the popular space group. Will we ever see their characters again in a Guardians Of The Galaxy 4 (minus James Gunn) or any other MCU adventure?

While “Drax” Dave Bautista has already indicated that he has given up on his Marvel career and “Gamora” Zoe Saldana also made similar statements, “Star-Lord” Chris Pratt recently stated that he would be quite open to reprising the role take himself as he honor what James Gunn started.

However, when we meet him and Zoe Saldana for an interview in Paris (where we got to attend an early screening of Guardians 3 at Disneyland), he tells Chris Pratt that he could very well imagine the comic book hero being played by someone else . in the future. In addition, he and his co-star also have a lot to say about emotional goodbyes and the special relationship between their characters…

Emotional farewell also for the stars

Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana (almost in one voice): I wouldn’t let her touch me. (laugh)

Chris Pratt: No, she could feel that I’m really looking forward to people seeing this movie and that I’m thankful for this journey and sad that it’s coming to an end at the same time.

Zoe Saldana: I’m there with Chris, but I’m also happy that this last installment is being received so well in the early reviews and that people are laughing and at least shed a tear when they watch it…

Zoe Saldana: (laughs) That makes me happy. Because we also felt how special it all was when reading the script, rehearsing and recording. All you can do after a job is hope someone else cares about you as much as you do. And when that happens, that’s great.

Chris Pratt: It was very special and emotional. Everyone cried. It was sad, not to lose a family member of course, but more to turn a page and close a chapter. For all of us, this ends a chapter in our lives. We’ll always be friends and we’ll always be able to call each other, but we’ve all been in this business long enough to know how it really works.

We all go our own way. It’s like every time you were at summer camp as a kid where you said to yourself, “We’ll be best friends forever.” And then cut off contact for a few weeks and before you know it you’re just texting each other birthdays. Life goes on. We all have families, raise our kids, do our thing. It’s all natural. And sad. But there is nothing wrong with sadness.

Zoe Saldana: It’s bittersweet… (to Chris:) You’re just deep there.

i

Chris Pratt: Don’t be sad. It’s the beer from last night’s Disneyland party talking about you… (everyone laughs)

“Star Lord is like James Bond”

Chris Pratt: I didn’t know until a few weeks ago. Who knows? I certainly don’t. Someone came up to me yesterday at Disneyland, where two people also played Star-Lord and Gamora, and asked me, “Is it weird for you that he’s dressed up to play you?” And I said, “No, it’s not.” We both dress up to play the same character.

Of course, the legendary Star-Lord will return. This was just my chance to carry the torch. And I am very grateful that of the many versions of the character, the one I have given a face and a voice is the most present. And if they continue with him now, he’s probably going to mean even more to people. But that doesn’t mean that must do it.

Zoe Saldana: It’s like James Bond. He will live forever.

Chris Pratt: Yes, or Han Solo. It has also been played by someone else. And it will still be the same…

Zoe Saldana: That’s correct.

Chris Pratt: Maybe. I’m not saying I wouldn’t either. But I don’t want to commit at this point, also to leave the fate of Star-Lord in this movie open to those who haven’t seen it yet.

Zoe Saldana: But it was always complicated. It wasn’t their friendship, but relationships are complicated. (laughs)

Chris Pratt: It got complicated in a way that to me was better than any relationship in a trilogy. Normally, romantic relationships follow the same pattern here: will it happen or not? Then they fall in love and ride off into the sunset together. And then things only get complicated when they have kids. That’s the arc for these kinds of stories.

It is destroyed here. This romantic archetype is undermined by everything that happened in Avengers: Endgame, where Gamora returns but isn’t the same Gamora. I can’t think of a movie where something like this has ever happened in this context. It’s a great way to get to the bottom of the pain of losing someone while looking into the eyes of the person you’ve lost. When has this ever happened? It’s a very special approach to the romantic genre.

Guardians of the Universe Vol 3“ has been running in German cinemas since May 3, 2023.
