Can we expect the next horror hit? The director of The Conjuring plans to adapt Stephen King’s short story

There are now a large number of Stephen King films. But as fans should know, there are not only successful film adaptations of well-known material from the grandmaster of modern horror, but also some pretty bad ones. But now a director wants to produce a short story from King, who really knows a thing or two about horror and has made some of the most effective scary movies in recent years with movies like “Insidious” and “The Conjuring”: genre expert James wan.

Through his label Atomic Monster, he wants to make an adaptation of Stephen King’s short story “The Monkey”, which appeared in the 1980 short story collection “The Fornit” and “Blood”. However, James Wan will not be directing himself, but will only act as producer. How exclusively reported, was with Osgood Perkins already found a suitable director for the project. The filmmaker had previously made a name for himself with genre contributions such as “Gretel & Hansel” or “The Devil’s Daughter”.

And a protagonist has already been signed: Theo James (“The White Lotus”, “The Time Traveller’s Wife”) will lead the cast. It is not yet known when we can expect the horror film. Since the project is currently in a very early stage of development, the film adaptation of “The Monkey” should not be released before the end of 2024.

The story “The Monkey” (OT: “The Monkey”) is about twin brothers Hal and Bill, who find a toy monkey in an antique chest. But instead of joy, this mechanical animal only brings death, because every time the monkey bangs its bells together, a fatal accident happens in the surroundings of the brothers…

After a few tragic incidents, the brothers connect the monkey to the events and get rid of the deadly part. But years later, the cursed toy turns up again in one of the brothers’ houses – the sinister monkey is discovered by his son in the attic. Events begin to repeat. Can Hal get rid of the evil toy once and for all?
