Since May 4, 2023, Netflix shows how the German princess Charlotte (India Amarteifio) defeated the British King George III. (Corey Mylchreest) met and married – becoming the queen (Golda Rosheuvel) we know from the Netflix hit Bridgerton. And we also learn about the careers of Lady Agatha Danbury (Arsema Thomas) and Violet Ledger (Connie Jenkins-Greig) before she became Lady Bridgerton.
But the big question is, will we continue to follow these characters in a second season of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story? We currently strongly believe that there will not be a second season of “Queen Charlotte” because Netflix describes the spin-off as a miniseries, so as a completed series.
Other spin-offs are not excluded
There is also a reasonable conclusion to the story in the sixth and final installment of the series. Yet there is still much to tell about the early years of the characters in “Bridgerton”. And who knows: if “Queen Charlotte” is successful, maybe Netflix will give us more “Bridgerton stories”.
In principle, such a spin-off can be dedicated to almost any character from “Bridgerton”., whether it be the early years of an older character, or the adventures a character goes on when not part of the main “Bridgerton” storyline. For example, there is the experience of Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) during his journey through Europe – just to name one possibility.
King George’s illness
In the spin-off, we not only learn more about the early years of the Queen and other “Bridgerton” characters, but also about the illness of her husband, who would later be known in history as “Mad King George”. By the way, today it is believed that the king’s mental illness could be the result of a metabolic disease called porphyria. And while we only saw King George in his moments of “madness” in “Bridgerton,” the “Queen Charlotte” prequel paints a very different picture of the royal…
But once the Queen Charlotte spin-off is over, when will we see the elderly Queen and her husband back in the main Bridgerton series? First the good news: Not only has the upcoming third season of “Bridgerton” been scratched, Season 4 has even been officially ordered.
When is season 3 of Bridgerton coming?
In fact, we’ve already seen something like Bridgerton Season 2.5 with Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. Because on a second time level, the elderly queen, as well as the elderly ladies Danbury (Adjoa Andoh) and Bridgerton (Ruth Gemmell) also appear – and this storyline plays out the wedding of Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate (Simone Ashley) in Season 2.
Unfortunately, it will be a while before we get to see “Bridgerton” season 3. Filming for the third season has ended, but we don’t expect new episodes to start until late 2023 at the earliest.
Bridgerton Season 3 is about the love story of Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington aka Lady Whistledown (Nicola Coughlan). The Shonda Rhimes-produced Netflix series makes a change from Julia Quinn’s novels. Because that’s where this couple only takes center stage in part 4.
