Coronation of King Carlos III: Stages of the liturgy

The coronation of the son of the late Queen Elizabeth II, Carlos III, is getting closer.

It was announced that 2,000 guests The act will be attended by: heads of state, members of European and world royal families, religious representatives and British nobles.

They will all arrive between one and two hours before the abbey to witness the historic coronation.

The ceremony, which will last two hours, will be divided into five stages:

– Confession: Carlos III will be presented to the people, a historical tradition that will take place next to the chair of King Edward, which is 700 years old, and which had to be restored in order to become one of the protagonists of the enthronement.

– Anointing: It is the most sacred moment of the coronation.

Carlos III will take off his ceremonial tunic and sit on the chair of San Eduardo to be anointed. The Archbishop of Canterbury will anoint the monarch with oil in the shape of a cross on the head, chest and hands.

– Investiture: It will be the only time the King wears the St. Edward’s Crown, becoming the seventh monarch in history to wear it.

After the Archbishop lays the crown on him, the abbey bells will toll for two minutes, as will the trumpets, and salutes will be fired across the UK.

– Enthronement: In the final part of the ceremony, the king will ascend the throne. According to tradition, members of the royal family would have to pay their respects by kneeling before Carlos III, pledging allegiance and kissing his right hand.
