‘Calypso Jazz’, the new EP from Idanie Dowman and The Beachers

Jazz dame Idania Dowman and The Beachers have teamed up for a two-song EP featuring new versions of jazz classics What a Wonderful World and Lypso Jazz.

This EP is a collaboration that brings together energy Beachgoers with the vocal abilities of Idania Dowman, to create a unique and refreshing sound that penetrates the tradition of calypso and jazz.

It has two songs, each with its own own personality and a distinctive rhythm that takes listeners on a musical journey that celebrates the culture, joy and beauty of life in the Caribbean.

“What a wonderful world” is a recognized success that he originally composed George Weiss and Robert Thiele and was immortalized by Louis Armstrong in the late 1960s and early 1970s with the intention of conveying peace in those tumultuous moments experienced in those decades.

Since their inception, The Beachers have told a story of hope, optimism with their countless performances, and in commemoration of their 55-year musical career, they chose this symbolic anthem of hope, inviting the lady of jazz, Idania Dowman to participate with it. lively voice.

The idea of ​​producing this album came from the friendship between The Beachers and Idania, who have collaborated live many times through their stories.

During the tour of the place Afro-Latino Festival in New York and Afrotaino in Philadelphiagets the opportunity to work at the Sear Sound studio in Manhattan, where under the guidance of the project’s producer Billy Herron, they document the rhythmic foundations and harmonious choruses of the legendary Panamanian soul singer Ralph Weeks, in order to create a new story that interweaves the flavor of the Caribbean, jazz and Afro-Caribbean culture through one of the most recognized popular songs of the 20th century.

Lypso Jazz is a song he composed Idania at 12 years old together with her father, the legendary Lord Byron, who explains to his daughter that calypso is a social expression that speaks of sadness, joy, mischief or some joke in the environment, and then the idea of ​​talking about a good friend arises. her school, which is always his brought gifts.

Billy Herron was in charge of producing both songs from Folk Lab Studio in Panama, in collaboration with musician and producer Alexandre Kassin from Brazil.

This EP won the Ibermúsica Award 2022 in the category “Assistance to the Music Sector in Virtual Mode”.
