The rapper accused the company, among other things, of copying the design of his specially designed “Yeezy” and then using it for his own other Adidas models. West had repeatedly sharply attacked Adidas. Now Adidas is apparently pulling the string for itself. “A successful partnership is based on mutual respect and common values,” the group explains. Adidas apparently no longer sees these values as a given.
The musician would also have demanded more influence at Adidas in the past.
The company has so far not responded to the allegations. They are now questioning the collaboration with the musician, who is considered eccentric.
In good times billions of sales would have been made with the brand. The deal involves a lot of money for both parties involved. West gets royalties, that is, a share of the profits. For him, the brand is also a figurehead.
According to the group, the collaboration resulted in “iconic products”. And yet – it could all be over soon. According to speculation, the company offered the musician and designer a settlement of one billion dollars. But a final decision on the future of the collaboration has yet to be made. According to industry circles, the possibility of meeting again should not be ruled out.
As a fashion designer, Kanye West collaborates not only with Adidas, but also with other famous brands. A collaboration with the fashion company Gap has been running since 2020, but has already ended prematurely. Only the current collection may be sold.
Most recently, at Fashion Week in Paris, the rapper provoked a T-shirt with the phrase “White Lives Matter” – an increase in the slogan “All Lives Matter”, which in turn was brought to life in the US by conservative and sometimes far-right circles, in response to the Black Lives Matter movement.
