Brad Pitt in the footsteps of Tom Cruise: daring action in the new film from the creator of “Top Gun 2”

With Apple and a big budget behind him, Joseph Kosinski is going to make an action-packed Formula 1 film. Brad Pitt plays a former racing star who returns to the cockpit to become a teammate and mentor a young driver (“Swarm of Bees”, shooting star Damson Idris). The special thing about it: Like with “Top gun: Maverick“ Kosinski assumes as much realism as possible – and this is not only evident from the fact that seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton is on board as an advisor.

Because after the “Top Gun” sequel, the stars around Tom Cruise and Miles Teller had to get into real planes and take off, Brad Pitt is now getting behind the wheel of a real race car – even for a real race.

During the Formula 1 Grand Prix in British Silverstone in July, the film crew will act and be present as an eleventh racing team in addition to the ten regular Formula 1 teams. They will shoot numerous racing scenes for the film, for which a camera has even been specially developed.

However, some corrections to the statement in the tweet linked here from Will Buxton are important, who moderated an event at the F1 Accelerate Summit in Miami where Kosinksi and producer Jerry Bruckheimer (“Top Gun”, “Pirates of the Caribbean”) were presenting of the project:

Of course, Pitt will not suddenly enter the race himself (and possibly influence the sporting competition). The recordings will then probably take place around training sessions – and certainly if the cars of Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Fernando Alonso and Co. are in the garage, but you can use the full stands and all the real trappings for authenticity.

This is reported by the industry magazine Pitt will also not get into a real Formula 1 car. With the help of Mercedes, modified vehicles based on Formula 2 and/or Formula 3 cars were created for the filming.

Tom Cruise wants to participate, Kerry Condon can

When such daring stunts are performed in Hollywood, one man is usually not far away: Tom Cruise! And it might annoy him that his former “Interview with a Vampire” co-star Pitt can certainly now fly around the track even more shamelessly than he ever did in Tony Scott’s “Top Gun” quasi-successor “Days of Thunder.” . And that’s why Cruise would have already offered his help.

If you still need support with the car action sequences, Cruise is happy to help. In any case, this alleged statement by the star was distributed as part of the project presentation at the aforementioned F1 Accelerate Summit in Miami.

However, instead of Cruise, an actress’s engagement has just been announced. Kerry Condonwho recently received an Oscar nomination for The Banshees Of Inisherin, plays the team’s technical directorin which the characters of Pitts and Idris act as drivers.

It is not yet known when the Formula 1 film with Brad Pitt will be shown in cinemas and then on streaming service AppleTV +. With a planned mid-to-late 2023 shoot, the first release should be by the end of 2024 at the earliest.
