“Back to the Future” Reunion: Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox Together in New York

Back to the Future stars Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox met for a panel at New York Comic Con. They looked back on their time together on set and were hugely celebrated by the fans.

37 years after the first Back to the Future movie, Christopher Lloyd and Michael J. Fox talked about the franchise at New York Comic Con. In the first film, teenage Marty McFly (played by Fox) travels back in time to the 1950s using a car that functions as a time machine. In doing so, he almost prevented his own birth.

In front of thousands of ‘Back to the Future’ fans, Canadian-American actor Fox told how he and Emmy Award winner Lloyd first met.

“The best thing about this movie was working with Chris,” he said, adding that “it was fun” working with Chris, “because he’s just brilliant.” Lloyd said there was an “immediate chemistry” between the two that lingered throughout the filming of the three films.

The two were asked if they had brought anything from the film sets. Lloyd insisted he would “do nothing,” but soon after revealed he had a t-shirt from the set of the third film.

A musical based on the first part of the “Back to the Future” series is currently being performed in London. It will hit Broadway next year. The two actors have nothing but praise for the musical. Fox said: “It was fantastic. They could have fallen into the trap of impersonating us, but they didn’t. The characters were original, I thought the piece was really well written, the music was great and I’ll go when it comes to New York.” Lloyd is also enthusiastic: “I don’t know how they could have done better”.

Fox's decades-long battle with Parkinson's disease was the theme at New York Comic Con.

Despite his Parkinson’s disease, Fox was eager to perform and be there in person for his fans. “You gave me my whole life,” he said, later admitting he wouldn’t change his diagnosis if given the chance.

At the very end of the panel discussion, Fox and Lloyd were asked to share a piece of wisdom for the public. Lloyd appropriately chose a line from Doc Brown from the end of Back to the Future Part III: “Your future is what you make it, so make it a good one!” Fox chose a line from his favorite movie Doctor Strangelove: “You can’t fight here, this is the war room.” What does he mean by that? No matter how crazy things get, take a deep breath, keep going.

About 200,000 fans attended the New York Comic Con between October 6 and 9 this year.
