Gladiator 2 Surprise: This Gladiator character returns

With “Gladiator 2”, Ridley Scott is currently working on a sequel to his hit “Gladiator”, but those who have seen the adventure epic from the year 2000 know that this cannot be a classic sequel – most of the main characters die in the course of the story of “Gladiators”. The focus of the second part is one of the few remaining characters: Lucius, the nephew of the villainous Emperor Commodus (played by Joaquin Phoenix at the time). But another character will also return.

Like the American industry magazine reported, is the return of Connie Nielsen as Lucilla sealed – the mother of Lucius and sister of Commodus, as well as love interest of Ridley Scott’s Maximus also played an important role in the first part. And so it should be in “Gladiator 2”:

As Deadline goes on to say, there weren’t exactly many familiar faces that could return. That’s why it was so important to Scott and the studio for Nielsen’s character to return in the sequel, and they included her in the film’s development process from the start. The mother-son relationship between Lucilla and Lucius (as an adult man: Paul Mescal) will probably play an important role in “Gladiator 2”.said the journal.

“Stranger Things” also plays a leading role there

Connie Nielsen isn’t the only new addition to the Gladiator 2 cast read further also became a “Stranger Things” star Joseph Quinn on-board fetched. In his case, the negotiations have not yet been concluded, but in the vast majority of cases such negotiations for a role turn out well.

Paul Mescal, Connie Nielsen and Joseph Quinn in Gladiator 2 are joined by Barry Keoghan (Eternals, The Banshees Of Inisherin) and two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington (Training Day, The Equalizer series). Their role is not yet known.

Gladiator 2 will hit US theaters on November 22, 2024. A German start date has not yet been set, but as usual it should be the Thursday before this date, so November 21.
