Three years after Black Mirror season 5 came out, Netflix released a teaser for season 6.
The cast includes Aaron Paul, Ben Barnes, Salma Hayek, Kate Mara and Michael Cera.
While Black Mirror episodes have always been standalone episodes, series creator Charlie Brooker hints that Season 6 will follow a new model. A logline states: “The sixth season of ‘Black Mirror’ is the most unpredictable, unclassifiable and unexpected”.
The first teaser promises exactly the level of dysfunction, gloom and dystopia fans have come to expect from the hit series, but seems even more violent than previous seasons.
“I’ve always felt that ‘Black Mirror’ should have stories that are completely different from each other and keep surprising people (and myself), otherwise what’s the point?” Brooker tells Variety. “It has to be a series that is not so easy to define and that can always reinvent itself.”
Brooker continues, “To keep things fresh for both myself and viewers, I’ve started this season by deliberately changing some of my own basic assumptions about what to expect.” For this he has used a number of well-known tropes, but also new narrative elements. Brooker is not disclosing which one. Only that “among them a number [sind], which I previously swore would never appear on the show. He does this “to expand the parameters of what constitutes a ‘Black Mirror’ episode.”
Netflix has announced the new season for June.
