Saharawi Film Festival in GECU

In Panama, the schedule of film screenings is very attractive. Since Monday, the Saharawi Film Festival has been held at the GECU University Cinema of the University of Panama.

The screenings will last until Friday, April 28, with times at 3:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

This is probably the first time that a selection of feature and short films, feature films and documentaries by Saharan filmmakers, as well as from other parts of the world on the Saharan theme, will be shown in Panama, according to the organizers.

This will “give us a much broader picture of the political, economic, military and territorial problems that this Western Sahara country has been facing for years, as well as its culture and recent history.”

What films will be shown?

Wednesday the 26th

– “Nomadic Garden”: A short story about a refugee who planted crops on barren land in Algeria.

“The Madman of the Desert”: A refugee who studied Fr renewable energy is looking for better conditions of life in the Algerian desert.

– “They’re just fish”: Briefly about a fish farm in the desert.

All these tapes will be projected from 15:00 to 17:00

– “Mutha and the death of Hamma Fuku”: A a woman looking for mines planted in the desert to exterminate the Sahrawis.

– “Mine beats”: A short film about landmines for the extermination of the Saharawi people and approaches the reality of the victims.

– “I exist”: A short story about solidarity in the eyes of children.

These tapes will be shown at 19:00

Thursday the 27th

“Children of the Clouds, The Last Colony”: Javier Bardem talks in this film about the oppressive situation in the Western Sahara and how the powers that be deal with the issue out of economic interest, not ethical or liberating. It will be at 19:00.

Friday the 28th

“Wanabik: A people living in front of their country”: In the midst of the war against Morocco, a group of young Saharan refugees studying cinematography are filming their thesis and choose the Wall of Shame as their subject. It will be at 15:00.

– “Wlaya”: When her mother dies, the woman returns to the land of her ancestors and learns to survive in unfavorable situations with the help of her sister. It will be at 17:00.

– “Life on Hold”: Referendum and Resistance in Western Sahara”: The youth of Western Sahara are resisting the freedomless fate of their country, Africa’s last colony, under the occupation of a repressive Moroccan militia. It will be at 7:00 p.m.
